幾近完美的英文小說，卡波特的視角也是獨一無二的，換直男也寫不瞭。原型應該是卡波特的閨密瑪麗蓮夢露，電影版卻由另一女神一演成名。村上說Holly 是純潔的放蕩感，我覺得可能是翻譯的問題，Holly 的顔激發瞭不可抑製的欲望，但她的真實和純粹卻讓所有活不通透的人永遠也夠不著她。

杜魯門·卡波特，美國著名作傢，兩次獲得歐•亨利短篇小說奬。1924年生於新奧爾良，17歲受雇於《紐約客》開始寫作生涯。1948年處女作《彆的聲音，彆的房間》獲得世界性的成功。1958年，奠定其大師地位的傑作《蒂凡尼的早餐》齣版。1966年，完成瞭巔峰之作《冷血》。1984年8月25日晚，敏感、復雜和飽受爭議的卡波特，因用藥過度，猝死於友人傢中，終年59歲。
