Paratexts are those liminal devices and conventions, both within and outside the book, that form part of the complex mediation between book, author, publisher and reader: titles, forewords, epigraphs and publishers' jacket copy are part of a book's private and public history. In this first English translation of Paratexts, Gerard Genette shows how the special pragmatic status of paratextual declaration requires a carefully calibrated analysis of their illocutionary force. With clarity, precision and an extraordinary range of reference, Paratexts constitutes an encyclopedic survey of the customs and institutions as revealed in the borderlands of the text. Genette presents a global view of these liminal mediations and the logic of their relation to the reading public by studying each element as a literary function. 评分应该给3.5 用的大部分是法国文学的例子 但要想用在英国文学可需要相当广泛的涉猎 特别impressive的例子不是非常多 而且感觉没有区分genre 小说谈的比较多 诗歌谈的少 大部头或全集多 短小的单个作品少 少见有趣的轶事 按说序言，宣传，epitext，journal等应该都有料 但书里显得有些乏味 也少见深刻地揭示影响与作用 或许某些重要的例子需要进一步深挖

评分大概读了150页左右，选取我需要的部分读的。基本是上可以看成一个工具手册了，有需要读对应即可。
评分被铺天盖地的细节和至死不渝的分类支配的恐惧。。。虽然总是从author/publisher的意图出发，也没有否认读者可以不管不顾啊
