有人詬病這本小說理性的探討多過其故事性，但可能純文學的人生、學術的人生本就如此。對我來說，各個主題的探討很有趣，側寫的學術界文學界眾生相更有趣，但驚我心動我魄的是作者對Elizabeth與繼父、姐姐、兒子兒媳的愛欲糾葛蜻蜓點水的敘述。
