The institution of the republic was rivaled first and disrupted later by unchecked personal ambition, but it's not the only story to be told.

评分能把这么好看的一段历史写得这么无聊也是有点水平的，还有大段的主观臆断。作者似乎特别执迷于以史为镜，把自己绕到沟里去了。文笔和见地都远不如Adrian Goldsworthy。看到三分之二就实在看不下去了。
