詹姆斯•瑟伯（James Thurber，1894～1961）

二十世紀傑齣的美國作傢、漫畫傢。齣生於俄亥俄州的哥倫布市。以冷麵滑稽的幽默諷刺小說聞名，尤其擅長以富於洞察力又妙趣橫生、跳蕩不羈的筆觸描繪現代生活，刻畫大都市中的小人物。筆法簡練新奇，荒唐之中有真實，幽默之中有苦澀，被人們稱為“在墓地裏吹口哨的人”。

瑟伯曾為《哥倫布晚報》記者、《紐約客》編輯，晚年執教於耶魯大學。一生創作瞭大量的散文、隨筆、寓言、故事、迴憶錄等。代錶作品有《想我苦哈哈的一生》《瑟伯嘉年華》《當代寓言集》等。《瑟伯嘉年華》一書被改編為舞颱劇，獲1960年美國戲劇界最高榮譽“托尼奬”。他的繪本《公主的月亮》獲美國權威童書奬凱迪剋大奬。本書中收錄的短篇小說《沃爾特•米蒂的私密生活》被導演本•斯蒂勒改編為電影《白日夢想傢》，該電影獲第85屆美國國傢評論協會奬年度佳片。
