评分1970年的書，如今讀起來依然是振聾發聵擲地有聲。Freidson最好的地方是塑造瞭一個具有延伸性社會學概念係統來幫助我們理解醫學職業，全書不僅環環相扣，而且相互輝映。從職業的特點入手，到醫療工作的組織，再到對疾病的社會建構，最後討論職業主義與公眾自由之間的關係。全書涵蓋瞭基本上大多數醫療社會學的主題，如果要我推薦一本非教材類的醫療社會學的入門書，那就是這本瞭。
