Book Description
A revised edition, with new material, of a classic collection of essays. With a new Introduction by the author.
From the Publisher
When The Morning After: Selected Essays and Reviews was published in 1971, Wilfrid Sheed was widely regarded as just about "the best professional reviewer in the business, and . . . one of the best writers around" according to The New York Times Book Review. Three decades on, Sheed's stylistic brilliance is, simply, a revelation. They just don't write them like this anymore. In his Introduction, written specially for this Common Reader Edition, Sheed looks back on his heyday as a reviewer. Also now included here is Sheed's celebrated piece about his experiences as a judge for the Book of the Month Club.
From Library Journal
Sheed's portrait of theater critic Max Jamison, who is on the edge of burning out, garnered a National Book Award nomination in 1970. Max's work is going to hell, his wife has left him, and he tries to fill the void with numerous sexual escapades that don't seem to help. This edition contains a new afterword by the author. Also new to the series is Sheed's The Morning After and Long After, a 1971 collection of essays and reviews.
