Organicism in nineteenth-century architecture is the first full-length study devoted to organicism in nineteenth-century architecture. Although the close connection between architecture and living nature is one of the most persistent themes in nineteenth-century architecture and theory, it has so far never been studied in its own right. This study traces the roots of organicism in the artistic theory of Antiquity and the Renaissance, and in eighteenth-century philosophy.
