评分這本書揭示了亞洲富豪致富方程式是透過具有壟斷性質的行業，而不是進出口貿易，因為後者賺的是辛苦錢，前者是典型的尋租活動。比較有八卦趣味的是他洞穿了很多亞洲富豪聲稱自己白手興家的假象，這些人不是本來出身不差就是娶了個有錢老婆。不過依賴專賣丶特許經營的致富方式背後反映亞洲經濟高度依橫政商關係，實際上就是crony capitalism。
