意大利知名史学家，被誉为“古典世界历史文献的首席学者”，1936年成为Turin大学的罗马史教授，但是作为一个犹太人，不久就失去了教席并移居英国（1938年），继续任教于牛津大学、伦敦大学学院（1951-1975），也经常访问芝加哥大学等。除了研究古代希腊历史和它的方法论，莫米利亚诺对现代史学也颇感兴趣（比如吉本），撰写了大量相关的研究。
