同樣關於中國環境政治，political ambiguity在政策執行中被認為是造成偏差的原因，在另一種敘事中卻成瞭可能默許新製度發展的背景，也許模糊本身就挺模糊的。作者基本上不認為環境訴訟乃至環境政治在中國能起到在蘇聯的那種作用，好像也很少有人有這種預期。

基於大量田野工作，從個體日常決策的角度理解中國政治體係內部的張力和矛盾，這無疑是一條比較紮實且前景廣闊的研究進路。可我總是懷疑，這種寫法雖然詳實，立論往往過於溫吞，少瞭能夠刺穿現實錶象的力度。溫開水雖解渴，但總是意猶未盡。
