目前看過奇特也最喜歡的錢德勒：大體下筆仍是馬洛的尖刻，卻讓讀者在一個配角身上瞥見溫和的人文關懷的痕跡。

錢德勒的書寫得真好，文筆精緻、俏皮。對人物的刻畫很細膩。情節倒不是那麼重要。馬洛探案的過程寫得象探險一樣跌宕起伏，這是作傢的著力之處。第一次看到有人這樣寫偵探小說。
