Phyllis Reynolds Naylor writes for both children and adults, and is the author of more than one hundred books, including the acclaimed Alice series, "Walker's Crossing, " and "Jade Green." In 1992 her novel "Shiloh" won the Newbery medal. "Bernie Magruder and the Bats in the Belfry" is the eighth book in the Bessledorf series. Mrs. Naylor lives in Bethesda, Maryland, with her husband, Rex. She is the mother of two sons, both grown and married, and has two granddaughters, Sophia and Tressa.
