論文肝完，原著打卡。很喜歡這本書的紙質瞭，輕飄飄卻很厚實的感覺，邊緣也不會劃破手。

Ambivalent, overall highly polished but can seem sterile at times. Readers get to enjoy a good mixture of themes - most dwell on finding patterns in nature, language and maths, some cover topical issues, while others were, well, experimental but a tad awkward.

作者對科幻和科學的理解很不同於以往我看的科幻文學。例如Hell is the absence of God偏嚮我們認知中的神學，但這也是讓我最不滿意的一篇，因為作者終究還是認為轉嚮信仰隻能依靠一個Holland所說的“occasion”。Story of your life則是探索人類語言的限度——不管再怎麼以光的摺射來說明因果論和目的論的差異，在人類語言不得不遵循的綫性錶達中，Heptapods的語言都依然更像是“預知未來”。整本書都更接近科學哲學的氣質，探討的是科學的有限性——當然，按我們大傢的老烏龜的說法，誰說哲學不是科學呢？
