reads like a book that grew from a concept (what deportation does to separated families) - story feels predictable (but hey that's because it's in recent news, and because it grew out of Ko reading the news). Hated the unnatural and heavyhanded flourishes of the prose. the chineseness feels inauthentic. Is Polly blameless as the book suggests? (No)

是非常“精緻“的一本小說，在一本講美國夢、跨文化領養、身份認同這些大而復雜的話題的小說裏，“精緻”既是優點也是個缺點。能感覺到作者對跨度為近二十年（大概）故事的一部分準備更為充分，另一些則能讀齣勉強，但還是過得去。在所有小說觸及到的話題中，跨文化領養的傢庭中的父母的“救世感”、對子女原生文化葉公好龍似的關注，是我從這本小說中的takeaway。Lisa Ko作為一名寫作者，值得繼續關注
