評價超高的一本，但我又不能領會瞭，可能是看膩瞭老男少女flirting。用詞比較平，某種程度上我可能也是慕精英措辭型的。

A slick me-too story at first glance, a perplexing 2nd act, then a revelation wrapped in 3rd act. A cerebral layered self-reflexive commentary on the power of writing, the possibility of empathy to bridge divides, the young writer penetrating the looking glass and delving into Amar's identity, losing herself, like Amar to god, Alice to Ezra.

雖然都是討論各種不對稱性，但兩個故事的硬性組閤，讀來還是會因為缺乏聯係而充滿一種有些異樣的對衝，或許這是被設計的結構感？

為瞭找齣第一部分和第二部分的關聯纔一路看到瞭最後…the folly part is banal, and the madness part is interesting. The third part is kitsch. 如果第二部分單獨作為一本小說並且完整和充實一點我想我會打4星，然而整本書給人以東拼西湊之感，最後也沒有讓人眼前一亮的恍然大悟之感。第一部分price tag過多宛如在讀小時代。

Lisa Halliday has worked as a freelance editor and translator in Milan, where she lives with her husband. Her short story 'Stump Louie' appeared in The Paris Review in 2005, and she received a Whiting Award for Fiction in 2017. Asymmetry is her first novel.

By contrast, “Madness” is narrated by Amar, an Iraqi-American man who, on his way to visit his brother in Kurdistan, is detained by immigration officers and spends the last weekend of 2008 in a holding room in Heathrow. These two seemingly disparate stories gain resonance as their perspectives interact and overlap, with yet new implications for their relationship revealed in an unexpected coda.
