He explains in an accessible way: Why nitrate fertilizer is necessary and how it is made; How nitrate escapes from arable and grassland systems; The problems nitrate can cause when it escapes in the environment; How nitrate affects human health; Political and economic aspects; What "risk" means and how it is best managed How we can come to terms with nitrate; The book builds upon an earlier work. Farming, Fertilizers and the Nitrate Problem (CABI, 1991), cowritten by Dr Addiscott.
