原本以为开篇17页的失业人群分类表格还有点意思，越读到后面越意识到没有历史训练、没有定量功底、没有采样宽度、没有访谈深度与技巧、没有田野基础的研究是有多么可怕，脆弱到无力的解释框架以及似有似无的个人经历/对话节选，内容散的无边，真是让人崩溃啊。最后全回归到唯才个人主义了 M

Anthropologist Katherine S. Newman interviewed a wide range of men, women, and children who experienced a precipitous fall from middle-class status, and her book documents their stories. For the 1999 edition, Newman has provided a new preface and updated the extensive data on job loss and downward mobility in the American middle class, documenting its persistence, even in times of prosperity.
