簡直像是一個琳琅滿目的百寶箱，安卡森的獨門秘技是掛著彆人的名字來寫一些類似同人的(故事)詩，伍爾芙可以是一個女演員(訓練她講颱詞的是修昔底德)，德納芙是和女學生有淡淡曖昧的女教師，同理《紅的自傳》。幾篇文論形式的篇章，比如伍爾芙和修昔底德論戰爭，泥土和欲望，都非常精彩。
