英国剑桥大学出版的世界通史分为古代史、中世纪史、近代史三部。近代史由阿克顿爵主编，共14卷，20世纪初出版。经过几十年后，到50年代，剑桥大学出版社又出版了由克拉克爵士主编的《新编剑桥世界近代史》。新编本仍为14卷，共约800万字，论述自文艺复兴到第二次世界大战结束，即自1493至1945年间共四百多年世界历史。国别史、地区史、专题史交错论述，由英语国家著名学者分别执笔。新编本反映了他们最新研究成果，有许多新的材料，内容也更为充实，代表了西方的较高学术水平，有较大的影响。
