R. B. Sheridan, or Richard Brinsley Sheridan, was born in Dublin in 1751 and died in poverty in 1816, although he was buried in Westminster Abbey. A politician and a dramatist, perhaps his most famous legacy is that of "Malapropisms", the unintentional use of humorous words, derived from the character Mrs Malaprop in The Rivals.
A theater classic, often called the best comedy of manners in English, is a delightful play that brilliantly skewers the affectation and pretentiousness of aristocratic Londoners of the 1770s.
