Max Morden has reached a crossroads in his life, and is trying hard to deal with several disturbing things. A recent loss is still taking its toll on him, and a trauma in his past is similarly proving hard to deal with. He decides that he will return to a town on the coast at which he spent a memorable holiday when a boy. 爱尔兰味道一读就能读出来！感官描写细致入微，回忆、联想、意识的飘离，平淡中饱含失落和怅惘。对中国读者来说应该算很琐碎的作品，但是一口气看下去也还是不错的，简直算得上散文诗风格的小说。（PS. 生词真的好多，Banville简直是形容词大神）

评分文笔是挺好，浪漫伤感型。但本人觉得这种回忆体比较压抑和低沉，有时觉得昏昏欲睡，有时觉得绝望得不想再读下去。主题重复：对于个人来说那么重要的一生，人的出生死亡，人的爱情友情，人的回忆等等，却对于这个世界来说，就像是大海里一个涟漪，一秒就消失，大海依然潮起潮落，世界依然运转，你存在不存在，好像根本没有影响和意义。"things endure,while the living lapse","cruel complacent of ordinary things"
评分能写insouciance，绝不写indifference。太难读了。care不起来！
