Poetry with Pleasure grows out of the involvement of English teachers of the Cen- tinela Valley Union High School District, Hawthorne, California, in curriculum de- velopment and change. Dissatisfied with the usual treatment and selection of poetry in standard anthologies, teachers taught and tested a number of poems in the classroom. And the poems in this book have been found by the authors and their colleagues to be valuable for reflective thinking, for developing symbol systems and conceptual abilities, for bettering student attitudes to- ward poetry, for demonstrating the values of poetry, and for developing sensitivity.
