按照德国汉学家顾彬教授的标准，《奥斯卡•瓦奥短暂而奇妙的一生》绝对是一本过时的小说，因为里面的人物太多了，光是肤色就有四五种。顾教授欣赏的是那种用几百页的篇幅，描述一个人和一个苹果的关系的现代派小说。值得一提的是，此书还展示了史上最具规模的鸣谢名单，里面...  

It reminds me of Cisneros's A House on the Mango Street and Julia Alverez's How the Garcia Girls Lost Their accents. Alverez also writes about Domnican American's lives, if I remember correctly. The multiple perspectives Diaz uses in narrating this a bit...
