By Puritan ethic I mean that<br >preoccupying sense， found in certain individuals， of a<br >mission， presumably divinely inspired， toward their<br >fellow men. To show how different puritans have<br >accepted， converted， stood aside from or rejected the<br >burden of this mission， I have chosen members of<br >the Winthrop family.
