He also says the popular belief that high cholesterol in the blood is related to coronary disease has no firm scientific basis. Mortality from heart attacks is decreasing， yet there is no clear reason why; rapidity of response by emergency services to heart-attack victims， and improved diagnosis， seem to be as effective as the more glamorous therapies.
