I would also like to thank my wife,Bernice, for her continuous patience, encouragement, and support.About the AuthorHoward Stone grew up in Boston, went to college in Maine and Illi-nois, and returned to his native New England, where he is now a li-brarian at Brown University For many years Howard was the touringdirector of the Narragansett Bay Wheelmen, the major bicycle clubfor Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. He is the author ofShort Bike Rides in Greater Boston, also published by The Globe Pe-quot Press, and two other bicycling guides. Howard has done exten-sive bicycle touring, including a cross-country trip from Newport,Oregon, to Newport, Rhode Island, in 1978.
