He is the author ofShort Bike Rides in Greater Boston, also published by The Globe Pe-quot Press, and two other bicycling guides. Howard has done exten-sive bicycle touring, including a cross-country trip from Newport,Oregon, to Newport, Rhode Island, in 1978.
