I owe almost everything to football， in which I have spent the<br >greater part of my life. And I have never lost my respect， my<br >admiration or my love for what I consider a great game.<br > For over thirty years I have been coaching football--in<br >high school， in the college area and at the professional level.<br >Yet I ve never had the time， in all those years， to put together<br >my thoughts on the game and what I consider to be the funda-<br >mentals. That is what I propose to do here: talk about the<br >fundamentals of football， from the basic techniques of the<br >individual player to the most sophisticated offensive and de-<br >fensive formations.<br > To me football is more than diagrams and techniques. It<br >is a lot like life in demanding a man s personal commitment<br >to excellence and to victory. But to achieve success， whatever<br >the job we have， we must pay a price for success. It s like<br >anything worthwhile. It has a price. You have to pay the<br >price to win and you have to pay the price to get to the point<br >where success is possible. Most important， you must pay the<br >price to stay there. Success is not a "sometimes" thing.
