some of the early essays in this collection are very helpful in elucidating how Panofsky's theoretical texts in the 1920s are put into interpretive practice, and the point of divergence between his method and those of his scholarly forebears (esp. Riegl and Warburg). 又: 读完图像学研究之后，反而觉得meaning这本可琢磨之处更多，很可能是因为其中收录了德语时期的翻译，故五星。
