The Devil's Discus is an investigation into the death of King Ananda Mahidol (Rama VIII) of Siam (later Thailand) by English-South African author Rayne Kruger, published in 1964 by Cassell.
It was translated into Thai as Kong Chak Pisat (Thai: กงจักรปีศาจ) by Chalit Chaisithiwet (Thai: ร.อ.ชลิต ชัยสิทธิเวช). In Thailand, the book was officially banned in May 5 2006.[1]
Kruger treated the King's 1946 murder as a true-life whodunnit, tracing the witnesses, arguing that this had really been a political assassination and naming the men responsible . the Government responded by banning the book and barring Kruger from the country. When a local firm planned to publish an edition, its premises were burnt down. Kruger later abandoned his writing career to become a property developer, becoming his wife Pru Leith's business partner, ie. Chairman and Financial Director, as she developed her career as a restaurateur.
