There is no doubt about the antiques
boom. People everywhere are fasci-
nated by the beauty, craftsmanship,
and the historical and commercial
value of relics from the past. For all
their charm and sentimental appeal,
however, antiques still have one draw-
back--they are basically second-hand
goods. They have inevitably suffered
from use, misuse, or storage.
Although the number of dealers has
increased with demand, the number
of professional restorers has dwindled.
As a result, restorers have been forced
to limit the number of their customers,
and people seeking help are often
faced witi!i long waiting lists and pro-
hibitive costs.
