還是熟悉的大型文獻綜述，重讀一遍依然感覺非常有啓發。然而，就像作者自己說的，我們見到的紙草文本很多是用語文學建構的，而驗證這種建構隻能用語文學，所以紙草學是一門相對封閉的學科，外人很難進入。雖然作者最後勸說曆史學傢不要放棄希望，但相應訓練的缺乏總會導緻無法控製文本的風險。在今天幾乎很少有人有時間精力同時接受曆史學和紙草學訓練，更彆提同時掌握書中介紹的量化等方法瞭。作者自己可能也意識到打通紙草學和曆史學的藩籬隻能是一種“高尚的夢想”，所以纔會說打通曆史學和紙草學的藩籬沒必要掌握所有學科的方法，可以根據自己的興趣廣泛涉獵吧。
