In the tradition of Stcphcn King, Down on
the Farm is a tense, unsettling exploration
of evil on a Michigan farm. Deep in the
cold earth beneath the Dubois family
farm, a grotesque primordial creature has
slept for a hundred years. MilIenia
before, it had arrived on this desolate
piece of land from another world,
immediately buried itself and began to
hibernate, a sleep filled with ghastly
dreams of violence to come. Now, as it
begins to stir from its grim slumber, it is
starved--but not for food. Only the
infliction of excruciating pain will slake
its thirst.
The demon thrives on the possession of
others, not only their bodies, but their
souls. First, it explores the lower life
forms: a henhouse rooster suddenly goes
berserk in a frenzy of bloodlust; then a
healthy young bull is found horribly
mutilated, its body torn and bleeding.
When two young lovers sneak into the
barn the creature finds that, through
possession, it can turn young love into
betrayal and fear. Then, it discovers the
Dubois family; one by one, the monster
will try to take them, and destroy them
forever.
