Years of exacting study were coming to
an end. All five student scientists, each the
best its species had to offer, were one step
away from the prestigious degree called

remained: fieldwork that would prove the
toughest challenge of their careers, and

The object of their study was Enigma, a
tiny planet circling a supergiant star. A world
with so little mass that it should never have
had an atmosphere--yet Enigma did. The
expedition was to find out why.
The years of coursework had prepared
them well, and everything seemed to be
running smoothly until the team s
mapping robots began to disappear." Molly,
the only Human member of the team went
out searching for one, and suddenly the test
turned ominous. For the deceptively calm
surface of Enigma concealed unforeseen
dangers, and when Molly was accidentally
blown into a deep fissure, she found herself
trapped in a series of caves and tunnels that
only led her deeper into the riddle that was
the heart of Enigma.
Her concerned companions soon
followed. In the maze of caverns beneath
the planet s surface they found Enigma s
most puzzling anomaly, and even these
learned scientists were stumped. For in the
dark passages they discovered life life
which couldn t possibly exist...
