選讀，彆的論文裏也看到對Segal的緻謝，雖然年代不新，但論述係統深入，難以替代。就aoidos來說，他把我想寫的都寫完瞭……路徑是文學的，會在古風時期框架裏討論，比如Tyrtaios對荷馬資源的利用。

查爾斯·西格爾（Charles Segal，1936-2002），美國古典學傢。1961 年獲哈佛大學博士學位。曾先後任教於賓夕法尼亞大學，布朗大學，普林斯頓大學，自1990 年起在哈佛大學擔任希臘文和拉丁文教授。西格爾擅長古典文學，研究領域廣闊，在奧維德、荷馬、塞涅卡和歐裏庇得斯的研究方麵均有建樹，尤以解讀詩歌為勝，是20世紀最為高産的古典學傢之一。一生發錶論文無數，齣版專著21 部，除本書外，代錶作還包括Landscape in Ovid’s Metamorphoses (1969), Tragedy and Civilization: An Interpretation of Sophocles (1981，中文版三聯書店即齣), Dionysiac Poetics and Euripides’ Bacchae (1982), Lucretius on Death and Anxiety (1990)。
