The word shiatzu is derived from two Japanese
characters: shi meaning finger, and atzu, meaning
pressure. Together, these characters express the
simple but potent essence of this type of therapy
--finger pressure.
The roots of shiatzu go far back in time to the
simple, primitive action of rubbing a painful area
of the body to obtain relief. Like acupuncture
and zone therapy, it is based on the recognition
that certain key points of the body are related
through the nervous system to other areas of the
body, and that the application of pressure to these
points can have a positive effect on the related
areas.
Thus, we present to you Shiatzu: Japanese Pres-
sure Point Massage, a method that works---and
one that can be put to immediate use either for
maintaining your present good health, or for al-
leviating some malfunction. Since you yourself
will be your own shiatzu specialist, we suggest the
use of shiatzu for those conditions that antedate
the advice of a doctor. Keep reading . . . you re
on the road to better health!
