利用泰勒的现代性框架（基督教，启蒙运动，浪漫主义）来理解佛教在当代世界的传播－－但这里有一个问题，作者的实证资料几乎全部取自北美西欧。而在东亚现代性的形态恐怕是显著不同而无法照搬泰勒的概括。不过无论如何此书好书。
