胡安•冈萨雷斯•德•门多萨（Juan González de Mendoza, 1545-1618），西班牙人，17岁至墨西哥，19岁加入奥古斯丁修会，潜心研究神学、语法和艺术，热心传教。他曾受命出使中国，未遂。后应教皇之命，广泛搜集关于中国的资料，历时两年，于1585年印行《中华大帝国史》。他曾被任命为西西里岛利巴利主教、恰巴斯省主教和波帕扬地区主教。
译者简介：孙家堃，北京第二外国语学院教授，毕业于北京外国语大学西班牙文系，留学墨西哥，攻读拉美文学、拉美历史、语言学、翻译学等课程。编著《印第安人保护者——拉斯•卡萨斯》《全国导游西班牙语》《西班牙口语》《西班牙语动词600》《西汉金融贸易词典》等书，译著《哥伦布日记》《西印度毁灭述略》《中国与西班牙关系史》《参加国际纵队的中国人》等。
