Picasso, who could contemporaneously adopt the styles of cubism, neoclassicism, surrealism, and expressionism and had many things in common with this legendary theater character. The book accompanies an exhibition in Rome of about two hundred artworks gathered from such prestigious museums and foundations as the Museu Picasso in Barcelona, the Centre Pompidou and the Musée Picasso in Paris, the Solomon R. Guggenheim in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Menil Colletion in Houston, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Philadelpia Museum of Art, and the National Gallery of Canada, in Ottawa.
