Merricat Blackwood lives on the family estate with her sister Constance and her uncle Julian. Not long ago there were seven Blackwoods - until a fatal dose of arsenic found its way into the sugar bowl one terrible night. Acquitted of the murders, Constance has returned home, where Merricat protects her from the curiosity and hostility of the villagers. Their days pass in happy isolation until cousin Charles appears. 读的时候不觉得什么, 合上书本回想某些细节的时候有点小发冷. 作者在几本书中都擅于把house塑造成character. 全书偏psychological, 唤醒小时候在一个地方流传的那个古老城堡的rumor.

评分读的过程不恐怖，恐怖的是读完以后冷不丁回想起的那些小细节。一直用"big white face"形容贪财的表哥，可是我的宝宝明明脸不大。期待电影。
