An amazing collection of photographs of old Tibet taken during the author's many journeys with her husband, Lama Anagarika Govinda.
This is a photographic record of expeditions to Central and Western Tibet undertaken from 1947 to 1949 by Li Gotami and Lama Govinda, author of Way of the White Clouds. These photographs constitute a unique and significant contribution to the world's understanding of traditional Tibetan culture. In addition to presenting the land and people of Tibet, they also preserve images of over 50 treasures of sacred art, most of which have never previously been photographed and are now largely lost to the world. Captions by Li Gotami and Lama Govinda provide a context for the photos, while a foreword by Tarthang Tulku and Lama Govinda's own introduction further illuminate the symbolism of Buddhist sacred art.
Part One of the book records an expedition to Central Tibet and Part Two documents a pilgrimage to Tsaparang in Western Tibet.
