是通過劉北成翻譯的那本《有爭議的知識》（Contested Knowledge）知道這個人的，然後找到這本《liberalism》，核心觀點就是，無論是Marx、Durkheim還是Weber，都是以不同的方式來調和自由主義與革命學說，從而重建自由主義。真是驚為天人。

史蒂文•塞德曼，美國社會學傢，現任奧爾巴尼紐約州立大學教授。他是專攻社會理論，文化，性彆，比較社會學，民主理論，民族主義與全球化問題的著名社會理論傢。1972年於布洛剋潑特紐約州立大學獲學士學位，1977年於紐約社會研究所獲碩士學位，1980年與維吉尼亞大學獲博士學位。在獲得博士學位後與新墨西哥州立大學任助理教授（1980-1983），後開始他在奧爾巴尼的教學生涯，他於1986年獲得奧爾巴尼助理教授資格並於1992年榮升教授。他的著作被譯為法語、漢語、韓語、羅馬尼亞語、土耳其語與西班牙語等多種語言。
