Critical infrastructures are those aspects of our nation's economic, political, and social systems that we rely on so strongly that any serious disruption would cause significant harm. They include agriculture and food, banking and finance, water, energy, telecommunications, and transportation. Because we rely so heavily on them, their security is paramount. Protection of these resources is one of the primary concerns of homeland security generally, and of the Department of Homeland Security specifically. This book takes a look at critical infrastructure and how we have and should protect it. Looking at our current vulnerabilities, protection plans, and security gaps, the authors offer a compelling overview of the various systems in place, and our options for the future, to keep our vital resources safe from terrorist attack.
