To Inspector Blackstone, the first kidnapping seems to have all the hallmarks of an amateur operation. The snatch is crude, the ransom too low, the child returned unharmed - and with almost panicked haste. The second kidnapping is altogether slicker and ends bloodily. But it is with the third - the spectacular abduction of a young Indian crown prince from a busy and heavily guarded London street - that the Inspector is forced to accept that this is no ordinary gang he is dealing with.
