这套丛书里面写得相对较差的一本，基本上是文学史梳理，但是allegory在不同作者那里地位的起伏也是相当有启发的，在布莱克，柯勒律治那里的贬低到波德莱尔、本雅明和德曼那里的重新发现这段历史的讲述很受用。在西方思想史里面，实际上是先有allegoresis(寓意解经)之后才有有意识的allegory创作。(另外，什么时候才能看到张隆溪的那本同名英文著作啊。

不太满意。一方面对寓言的历史性着墨很少（只是在文学史里打圈圈，而很少提不同的历史生产模式/知识型和寓言之间的关系），另一方面关于人对寓言以及寓言式阅读的欲望和冲动的讨论也只是点到即止。与其把allegory定义为saying one thing while saying another，不如说allegory is a form of mediation.
