在鹿特丹大學的圖書館隨手藉來，跟我想象的戰爭小說很不一樣。這是一本寫越南戰爭的小說。說是小說，其實基本上以第一人稱視角獨白和迴憶為主，有一種夢幻般的感覺。戰爭在這裏顯得莫名其妙，那種殘酷體現在人物的不知所措當中，似乎來不及恐懼，來不及悲傷，一切都是意想不到地突然發生。美國人始終沒有離開戰爭，總有一些年輕人莫名其妙地上瞭戰場，然後死去。這部小說倒是沒有什麼愛國者的情緒，隻不過是一個普通年輕基層軍官的角度談論著如何看待自己的責任，如何經曆著同伴的死亡和隨之而來的痛苦。

學院派後現代小說，很好的研究對象，不過就閱讀樂趣而言，遠不及同樣寫戰爭的海明威或馮尼古特。

關於戰爭的短篇故事。我個人不是很喜歡這種敘述方式。覺得一般般吧。相對於戰爭本身重點放在瞭戰爭中的人身上，卻總給我一種不夠深刻的感覺。
