Judith Farr is the author of several scholarly books,including THE LIFE OD ART OF ELINOR WYLIE(1983) and THE PASSION OF EMILY DICKINSON,which the New York Times Book Review listed as a “Notable Book" in 1992.She has also published many poems and short stories .Farr is a professor of English and American literature at Georgetown University and lives in Chevy Chase ,Maryland.
In 1847 Edward Dickinson`s daughter Emily wat seventeen,a student at Marny Lyon`s Female Seminary (Now Mount Holyoke College) in South Hadley,Massachusetts.Thrilled by the challenges of he education,yet repressed by the school atmosphere,she began writting letters hoe andto the friends she felt lonely for---passionate letters reveled in bubbling and irreverent mischief and declared the affectionate intensity of budding poet.Later ,after her death at hte age of fifty-five,friends and relatives exhanged misunderstandings of the woman they had no sure way of evaluating.
