Dick is the classic struggle of man against nature. Dick is the unprincipled family dog who gets the dog next door pregnant, creating problems with the neighbor. The Doctress deals with the narrator's insecurity and homophobia as he experiences his first prostate examination. And finally, Nero deals with a fatal hit-and-run and the media's influence in the investigation and on public opinion. Nero happens to be a big, sloppy dog who belongs to the granddaughter of the popular local news anchor. The trial and eventual resolution of events occurs at the family dinner table.
