似乎什麼都談到瞭，但又沒談齣什麼，且無趣… 最有價值的可能是90年代中期那波搖滾樂手的訪談材料；天鵝絨監獄，不錯的隱喻

作者將西方關注、東方主義和東方關注結閤起來談，試圖跳齣西方式的解讀。英文流暢，分析不繁復且到位，總體來說，是一本非常好的理解90年代盛行的打口文化和階層的書。值得藉鑒的是，在談起青年文化時，作者選擇的入口窄，即流行音樂。小切口，談齣深度，是目前傳媒領域非常受歡迎的一種學術模式。

觀點有點oldschool啦，不過某些洞察還是很有道理的。

During the 1990s illegally imported compact discs, known as dakou CDs, flooded into China, opening up the music world to Chinese youth and inspiring them to experiment with new sounds and new lifestyles.
